Although it may not taste as good, preparing food in the microwave rather than in the oven will save you a packet of money. If you find out it will take 75% more energy to cook in the oven, chances are you’ll look for more ways to use the microwave. When it comes to boiling water and steaming vegetables, you can save plenty of electrical power and do the job faster with countertop appliances rather than a stove. You might reckon that you save energy by washing your dishes by hand, but that is certainly not true. You get the greatest energy savings by totally loading the dishwasher just before commencing a wash cycle. Don’t dry the dishes using heat, use the cool dry or air dry options to increase the money you save.

The ingredients needed to make Steamed Pumpkin (Mochi with Twist):
- Prepare 2 cups rice flour
- Get 3/4 cup pumpkin puree
- Use 3/4 cup jaggery crush
- Provide as per taste Salt
- Take 10-12 tsp mixed fruit jam
- Take 10-12 cloves
Steps to make Steamed Pumpkin (Mochi with Twist):
- Pumpkin puree preparation: Take small pumpkin and remove it's skin. Chop pumpkin into big chunks, keep them in cold water until all are ready. Drain all the water and place them on steaming plate. Steam for 15-20 minutes or until soft and then mash them into medium texture paste.
- Take all the ingredients except jam and cloves, into a bowl and mix thoroughly. The dough should be sticky, but if you touch it, it should not stick to your hands. Add more rice flour, if needed until the dough comes together and doesn’t stick to your hands. Keep the dough aside for 10-15 mins.
- Take small chunks of dough and roll them to form balls.
- Take each ball and using finger press it down to make small cavity. Now place 1 tsp jam inside this and then bring it to shape of Modak.Repeat this process for all balls.
- Now place all these balls on a steamer, about 1 inch apart. The balls will not really expand when steamed, so use portions similar to what you want your serving size to be.
- Using a sharp knife, draw indents into the balls, so that they resemble pumpkins. I found that the best technique was to start at the bottom of the dough and slice upward and curved at an angle. Place a clove on the top of each of these mini pumpkin 🎃 so that it looks like it's stem / handle.
- Steam for approximately 10- 15 minutes. Make sure a cover is put over the steamer while steaming in progress.
- Afterwards open the lid and the mini pumpkins cool completely. When they completely cooled, they should be easy to pick up to serve.
